Frequently asked questions about your visit to the Museum

PLANNING YOUR VISIT
Do I need to pre-book a ticket to visit the museum?
Unless Covid restrictions ever come back, there is no need to pre-book your visit, you can pay on entry with cash or by card payment.
Do I need to print my ticket before I arrive?
You will receive your tickets by email which you will need to bring with you, either on a mobile device or as a print-out.
I have paid for my tickets; can I move them to another day?
If you would like to move your paid tickets to a different day, please call the Operations Manager or our desk Tel. 01947 601900. We might be very busy, so please bear with us.
Are children allowed in the museum on their own?
Children under the age of 16, need to be always accompanied by an adult.
Are dogs allowed in the museum?
We are afraid only Guide dogs are allowed in the house.
Are workshops free?
Workshops are free for locals (proof of postal address required YO21/YO22) and for any visitors who have paid museum entry. Otherwise, there is a very small fee to pay. Find out more on our events and activities page on our website (www.cookmuseumwhitby.co.uk)
Can I visit with a school and or adult group?
School groups are welcome to visit the museum. However, teachers need to book an organised learning visit.Schools do pay an entry fee per child. Teachers and leaders do not pay an entry fee.
School groups attempting to visit the Museum by booking free childrens' tickets through the website, will not be allowed entrance.

Why do you collect my data?
Offering admission tickets allows us to manage the number of visitors, when and if necessary (like during Covid), so that we can provide a safe an enjoyable day out. We would encourage you to Login or create a new account so that we can email you with helpful information. We do not share your information with outside organisations.
DURING YOUR VISIT
How long can I stay in the museum?
You are welcome to stay in the museum as long as you like, but an average visit lasts around 1.5 to 2 hours.
Can I leave the museum and re-enter?
Yes, you can leave the museum and re-enter on the same day by showing your e-tickets and or use it during the valid period if you have an annual pass
Is there a shop?
We have a small shop which has a variety of souvenirs with something to suit every pocket, from pencils, shells and postcards, to books, prints and replica instruments
Is there a coffee shop?
We are afraid we do not have a coffe whop in the museum. However, the Coffee Shop opposite us have a wonderful range of homemade food and cakes. There are many other coffee shops and restaurants near by.
